Stanford ♦ 1.5 Story Addition

Highlights

  • The owners got a new master bedroom with a 10' x 12' walk-in closet that sits atop the spacious family room.
  • The newly-remodeled and spacious kitchen looks out on the family room and features beautiful open cabinets that make cooking and entertaining a breeze.
  • The family room features a snack bar that doubles as a buffet when the house is full of guests.
  • The new 1st floor half-bath saves many steps for both owners and guests.
  • Now there is plenty of playroom space and room for family get-togethers.

Challenges

  • Owners had raised their three boys in this tiny little house. Now their sons were married with children of their own, and there was not a room in the house large enough to gather in with the extended family.
  • Taking the grand kids to the bathroom meant a trip up and down the stairs as there was no bathroom on the 1st floor.
  • Wardrobe was limited by 2 tiny closets tucked under the roof of their 1.5 story bungalow.
  • The knotty pine kitchen cabinets were tired looking in the dysfunctional kitchen.
  • The refrigerator was in the midst of the traffic pattern.

Solutions

  • Architrave carefully designed a 1.5 story addition that blended into the style of the house so perfectly, it looked like it had always been there.
  • Remodel included baseboards, windows, linoleum, lighting, storage, closets, master bedroom, re-engineered ceiling, 10' x 12' closet, and a bathroom addition.
  • The new design added a porch under a pergola.
